School Information
St Michael at Bowes Church of England Junior School, in the London Borough of Enfield, caters for children aged between 7 and 11.
We aim that every child will discover their God given gifts and strive for excellence in all that they do. Our children are taught to live out the values of Jesus Christ and to treat each other with honesty, integrity, compassion and respect. We recognise that every child is unique; all are Imago Dei – made in the image of God – and are loved unconditionally by God.
At the heart of our Christian distinctiveness we uphold the worth of each person:
We provide a safe and stimulating environment in which children develop their academic, physical, spiritual, moral, social and cultural lives. Within the school’s Christian environment, we give each child an understanding and respect for their own tradition and faith and encourage them to value those of others.
We recognise and value our rich linguistic and cultural diversity and endeavour to ensure that each child is able to excel academically and personally and have the skills, independence and initiative to become positive and proactive citizens of the world.
St. Michael at Bowes is a Rights Respecting School where children are taught their rights according to the United Nations Conventions of the Rights of a Child (UNCRC). We are fully committed to a Rights Respecting School ethos and have created the conditions for a rights respecting culture, built upon our values driven ethos.
Our curriculum is broad, balanced and creative and is constantly monitored and redesigned to reflect the needs of our children. Not only is it focussed on knowledge and skills but also attitudes, both local and global, and the learning of skills essential for life.
Through a Rights Respecting Christian ethos, we aim to instil in our children a belief in themselves, to nurture their self-esteem and, above all, to embrace their responsibility to respect and protect the rights of others. This in turn helps them to learn how to formulate, express and listen to the opinions of others, helping to raise achievement and self-confidence.
